If you are interested in renting the Ventilator cinema and/or bar for your event then please read through the information on this page. It might answer any questions you might have about dimensions, accessibility, opening times, capacity etc.
If you have other questions or want to check availability and rental costs for the Ventilator cinema then please contact ventilatorcinema(at)gmail.com.

Ventilator cinema
The cinema is a dark but beautifull cinema with actual cinema seats and an open space in the front of the room for tables, couches, stage, performances, workshops etc. The cinema is one of the only spaces that hastn’t changed much since the building was squatted in 1999. Of course we equiped it well but is almost identical to what the cinema looked like when the building was still the Film Academy of Amsterdam.
Dimensions: 660 cm (w) x 1280 cm (l) 357 cm (h)
Amount of seats: 40 fixed seats, ±40 flexible (folding chairs)

Ventilator bar
The Ventilor bar is a very bright and beautiful space at the backside of the OT301 with a view on the tennis courts of TC Kattenlaan and the Vondelpark. This space is ideal for meetings, brainstorms, workshops and other small scale events.
Dimensions: 463 cm x (w) 1210 cm x (l) x 331 cm (h)
Amount of seats: 24 flexible + more possible

Video playing
We don’t have DCP so screening works best with a movie file played from a computer. We have an ethernet cable and wifi for streaming video in our cinema however we can’t guarantee that this is 100% safee for streaming. As you might know an internet signal can sometimes have hick ups.
For best results make sure to send us your high quality video file to play from our copmter or bring your own playing device (laptop) and have the video downloaded on there already.
Make sure we know how you want to play your video. Just to avoid surprises and disappointments.

Floor plans
Below you’ll find the floor plan of both the Ventilator cinema and bar. The hallway in between the spaces can be used as well (for example for exhibition) but no objects can be placed here as it is an emergency route.

Terms and conditions
Please read the text on this page as it is important to understand how we work, what is needed, expected and what the costs are based on.

1) Costs
All income is used to pay the rent, invest in maintaining the space, technical, promo, cleaning, crew and other costs of running a public space. If we make any profit it will be used to print the AA newspaper or for any of our other initiatives/projects. The cost of renting our space depends on the amount of hours, requirements and other things needed. Your Ventilator contact will dicuss the price with you.

2) Build up / sound check / technical riders
We will make sure that the basic technical part is set up before an event. If anything else then what we have is needed you (the organiser) has to rent/arrange this yourself. Make sure we have all tech riders (sound, video, deco plans) and schedule for sound/video check and buildup at least two weeks before the event. And please be in time for build up and sound/video check if that is requested.

3) Bring your own laptop or Hard Disk
If you are planning to do a screening then please take your own laptop to play the video from. It will work best when your laptop has a usb-c connection, so we can connect our adapter which connects to the hdmi of the beamer and the soundcard. We also have a computer to screen from, so bringing a Hard Disk with your files will also work.

4) Promotion
Although we are not commercial we appreciate a good crowd to our events. We will promote all public events on the OT301 and the Amsterdam Alternative website and other channels. Please provide us (in time) with:
• Name of event
• Opening time
• Entrance prices (presale/door)
• Genre(s)
• Line-up
• Program description
• Short bio and pictures of the artists/performers etc
• Links to pages of organiser and artists
• A 1920 x 1080 px event banner
• High quality (press) photos of artists
Sticking up posters in town is at your own risk. Instead of fining the one who is putting up the posters they’ll fine the location. So if they fine the OT301 for your posters we’ll have to charge you!

5) Sound levels
The maximum sound level in our place is in control of the Ventilator sound technician, nobody else. In the cinema, before 23:00hrs the limit is 85dB (A-weighted average) After 23:00 hrs it is 80 dBA. In the bar, before 23:00hrs the limit is 83dB (A-weighted average) After 23:00 hrs it is 78 dBA. These limits are officially registered in the license. If we go over and get checked we endanger the license of the OT301.

6) Decoration
Please inform us about your decoration plans in advance. If not inpregnated against fire it is not allowed. Make sure to remove deco yourself after the event and take it with you when you leave. We don’t store deco and equipment unless agreed otherwise

7) Garderobe
In case of a long/big event there is an extra option to open up the garderobe on the 1st floor. Please discuss prices and possibilities with your Ventilator contact.

8) Ventilator crew & volunteers
We (Ventilator crew) take care of bar, cleaning, hospitality and tech people but extra volunteers from your side are very welcome. For example for hospitality and guiding people upstairs. We always need someone at the door on the street to avoid having too many biclycles in front of our (and the neighbors) door and to keep visitors quiet. It’s important to keep relations with our neighbors healthy. In the price you pay for renting the space we always include €12,50 an hour for the door person.

9) Presale
If your event needs presale we prefer to do that through the system of Amsterdam Alternative. The AA system is simple and cheaper than others and by using it we support the AA platform instead of big commercial companies. Ask your Ventilator contact how it works.

10) Opening times and curfews
The Ventilator cinema and bar close at 23:00 hrs, unless agreed otherwise.

11) Capacity and guest list
The official capacity (by fire department) of the Ventilator cinema = 88 people max. The Ventilator bar can hold up to about 75 people. But please discuss with your Ventilator contact about capacity because it depends on your program, set up and other logistics.
Income from ticket sales is yours, so it is up to you how many people you want to put on the guestlist.

12) Drinks and food
We have our own bar where we sell various alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Please don’t bring your own drinks. We don’t sell food. If you want to sell/provide food then please discuss the options with your Ventilator cinema contact.

OT301 House Rules
We want to give as much freedom as possible to our vistors, members and the artists playing/performing in the OT301. However, we need people to follow a couple of simple rules (in random order).

• No stealing
• No sexual aggression
• No tagging or graffiti in or on the building
