Esta es una plaza is a project that started in 2008 when members of the local community expressed interest in making use of a barren lot that had been left unattended for over thirty years.
The project began with a workshop during which participants cleaned and transformed the lot into a green space. Following its success and the collective desire to make the initiative more permanent, the group obtained cession of the land from Madrid City Council. Today, Esta es una plaza is a self-managed and collectively owned green space that offers an alternative, inclusive and sustainable space for social gatherings. It is also used for educational workshops focused on sustainability and environmental awareness.
