Cartella is a self-managed occupied social center, located in an abandoned park in the heart of the Gallico Marina neighborhood, on the northern outskirts of Reggio Calabria (South Italy). The CSOA Cartella was occupied on April 25, 2002. The CSOA Cartella carries out cultural activities such as organizing concerts, theater performances, film forums, and courses on various topics, as well as political initiatives. Another important activity at the CSOA Cartella is carried out by the activists themselves through a G.A.S. (solidarity purchasing group), which periodically organizes the “Fair of Degrowth”: a marketplace offering organic, recycled, and alternative products from non-industrial channels. Despite being the recurrent target of neo-fascist and mafia intimidation (e.g. in May 2012, the center was devastated by an arson), the center still stands strong today.
