(IT) - Centro Sociale Cantiere
A movement laboratory and space for alternative culture, Il Cantiere was founded by young students and precarious workers. In the wake of the anti-globalist movement known as "no-globalization," after the "Battle of Seattle" and leading up to the G8 counter-summit in Genoa, the Coordination of Student Collectives of Milan and the Province entered one of the city's many abandoned buildings: the historic Derby Cabaret at Via Monte Rosa 84, between the Fiera and San Siro districts. After more than 16 years of abandonment and decay, a space was cleared and redeveloped, and experimentation began with a tool for movement and transformation for young people and the city. Thus, Il Cantiere began the story of a social laboratory and alternative cultural space for young people and the city, a useful tool for combating discrimination, the sell-off and privatization of culture, abuse, and the lack of rights.
