Autonomous Space for Education (APE – Autonomiczna Przestrzeń Edukacyjna) is a collective based in Warsaw that supports and practices accessible, democratic education. The space is created and run by educators, students, and members of the collective, forming a learning community rooted in mutual exchange and cooperation.

APE organizes free educational classes and maintains a library and a freeshop, all open to everyone interested. Drawing on experiences within public education, the collective offers an alternative to commercialized schooling and its rigid hierarchies, standardized methods, and hidden curricula that promote social obedience. Instead, APE aims to both share knowledge and learn from others, believing that grassroots education is a key tool for social change. Their approach is inspired by libertarian education and critical pedagogy.

Classes are held in small groups and focus on participatory learning rather than rote memorization or passive note-taking. This allows teaching methods to adapt to the needs and interests of individual participants.

The house operates as a space free from animal exploitation, all food and materials used by the collective are vegan. APE functions entirely without fees, institutional grants, or subsidies. All classes and activities are organized voluntarily and on a non-commercial basis.

Everyone is welcome to join. The space is inclusive and actively free from prejudice. You are invited to propose your own classes, participate in ongoing activities, or attend collective meetings, which take place every Sunday at 15:00.

APE also organizes public educational events. Updates can be found on their Facebook page. For more information, visit their website and follow APE on Instagram.
