(CZ) - Collective Spodní 27
Spodní 27 70200 Ostrava, Czech Republic
In an excluded neighborhood of Ostrava, a city in eastern Czech Republic, a group of residents has transformed a single building into a vital community space and a hub of grassroots activism.
Collective Spodní 27 is a group of people living in a legalized squat at Spodní 27 in Ostrava. For decades, the house has served as a base for organizing initiatives such as Food Not Bombs, Ostrava Pride, a Roma festival, demonstrations advocating for social housing, as well as concerts and other cultural events.
Despite ongoing pressure and repression from the city authorities, the collective continues to defend and sustain the space. One of their core missions is to challenge the deep-rooted prejudices and stereotypes that persist in this region of Europe. They build solidarity, visibility, and mutual support in practice.
