Amplify community stories
We often reflect how Amsterdam, and cities worldwide are becoming smooth, inaccessible and cultureless. It can be easy to become numb or apathetic to this. At Rad-Ish we interview individuals who are cutting through the noise and creating spaces for genuine connection, community and action. Our first 12 episodes explore what it means to live radically.
We’ve had conversations with Jeffrey Babcock, who connects people through film and conversation with ‘Jeffrey’s Unground Cinema; with Sebbiebikes, who is bikepacking from the Netherlands to Japan, exploring border politics and what it reveals about conquest, imperialism and racism. We heard stories of the power of community kitchens in creating accessibility and support with Taste Before You Waste and De Sering. We discussed how to reclaim and reimagine city space with Sara Mattens and Dr. Nourhan Bassam. Throughout all our episodes we’ve learned more about the intersection of art and political action.
All of these conversations taught us the importance of being present in your community, listening to, and sharing the stories that surround you. Through acts big or small, each one of these community members oppose destructive forces of othering, creatively and radically fostering togetherness.
What really makes the podcast great, is how everyone on the Rad-Ish team defines ‘living radically’ differently. Every person we’ve interviewed amplifies and shares the stories from their communities through creative ways. We’re looking for new teammates to bring creative ideas on how to amplify Rad-Ish episodes through social and print media and bring their unique definition of ‘radical living’ to our team.
