One World of Future Vision
Future Vision Festival is a celebration of unusual animation, a feast for the eyes jam packed with films of every shape size and hue. This year’s festival presents a selection of over 200 films with cutting edge animation from Japan, The Netherlands and over fifty other countries worldwide.
The film selection comes to you direct from the zeitgeist of animation now, with work from young animators who are bending and blending genres, styles and techniques old and new. Also featured are new short films from notable Dutch animator Paul Driessen (Yellow Submarine) and Burbank legend and character designer Charles Zembillas (Spyro The Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, She-Ra and He-Man).
‘When we began the festival in 2020, with the help of our friends at Tama Art University and The Dutch Embassy in Japan, and SALTO TV and HKU in The Netherlands, the focus was on Dutch-Japanese collaboration. We had high hopes that our animation festival would capture the interest of international animation fans but we actually had no idea of the degree to which the festival would flourish and grow. They love us in India!’ says Fay, the festival’s artistic director. ‘The quality of the films and the diversity of the voices represented are a unique aspect of our festival. These voices are unusual to hear and impossible to ignore.’
Future Vision Festival runs December 1st 2022 to 8th January 2023 hosted in free spaces at Sub Store in downtown Tokyo on December 17th 2022, with a sister event at Vrij Paleis in Amsterdam on 7th January 2023.
