Our Millennial Trash program burrows deep into the garbage heap of 90s nostalgia to find the films that defined a generation. Tonight, we take a big bite out of Kenan and Kel's fast food cult comedy Good Burger (1997).
After crashing his mother's car, teenage Dexter (Kenan Thompson) is forced to take a summer job at Good Burger alongside Ed (Kel Mitchell) a good-natured, but daft cashier. When rival chain Mondo Burger moves in on their territory, Dexter and Ed scheme to save their jobs with a secret sauce. Adapted from a beloved bit on Nickelodeon's "All That" sketch comedy series, Good Burger is a delightfully silly riff on wage labor, friendship, and suburban teenage boredom. The film's absurdist humor, buoyed by Kenan and Kel's comedic chemistry as the slacker heroes, have made it a hit with kids and stoned adults ever since. Watch the trailer.
