[WHERE] I BELONG

ENG | Who gets to draw the line between ‘normal’ and ‘different’? And what if the problem isn’t you, but the mould you’re expected to fit into?

Moving between intimate drama, surreal animation and documentary, the five short films in [Where] I Belong explore the labels we are given, the prejudices we face and the ways people resist being defined by others. Through stories of resilience and unexpected connections, the programme examines how our sense of identity is shaped by the communities around us, especially when those same communities make us feel like outsiders.

What does it really mean to belong? Is it about a place, a culture, or the people we choose to call our own?

This 87-minute programme was curated by participants of Humans of Film Festival's Social Programming Workshop, under the guidance of artist Rots Brouwer.

NL | Wie bepaalt wat ‘normaal’ is en wat niet? En wat als het probleem niet bij jou ligt, maar bij het hokje waarin je geacht wordt te passen?

Van intiem drama tot surrealistische animatie en documentaire: de vijf korte films in [Where] I Belong gaan over mensen die hun eigen weg proberen te vinden in een maatschappij die hen maar al te graag een etiket opplakt. Over vooroordelen en de druk om je aan te passen, maar ook over onverwachte ontmoetingen en de zoektocht naar verbondenheid. Maar wat als de gemeenschap waar je dacht bij te horen je buitensluit?

Wat betekent het eigenlijk om ergens thuis te zijn? Is dat de plek waar je vandaan komt, of zijn het de mensen bij wie je jezelf kunt zijn?

Dit programma van 87 minuten is samengesteld door deelnemers aan de Social Programming Workshop van Humans of Film Festival, onder begeleiding van kunstenaar Rots Brouwer.
