Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community. It has an intrinsic and instrumental value and it is a basic human right.
Mental health is inextricably linked to gender equality and the social structures that shape our lives. From societal expectations and gender roles to discrimination and unequal access to mental health care, gender inequality can profoundly affect mental well-being. A feminist perspective challenges these inequalities by questioning the systems and norms that contribute to mental health struggles and how societal expectations shape our understanding of mental health.
Our discussion aims to question how gender inequality, societal expectations and intersecting forms of discrimination shape mental health and access to mental health care through a feminist lens. Join us to explore these and other topics surrounding Feminism & Mental Health.
