carmela and pos invite daniel rincon (nap) and juan felipe gallo (dada phone) for a celebration of the latin diaspora and sound system culture, with the collaboration of possibilities of sound.

carmela, pos and daniel all connected through the simple, shared sentiment of creating spaces and dance floors for all sounds and communities. for this event, carmela is bringing back that feeling of home for the latin diaspora that you know very well. expect amazing food and drinks provided by carmela cocina.

nap
daniel rincon has lived in a hundred different worlds, and he has built a utopia in each of them. the colombia-born artist better known as nap. would hear the sounds of cumbia and merengue floating through his house, but he was interested in rougher stuff: punk, hardcore, no wave. In his childhood, rincon’s music teacher told his mother that he had an ear better fitted for field artillery than music; when he was a teenager, rincon’s family moved to vancouver, and there, he found a way to weaponize that ear. He started going to no wave shows, and he’d dj parties with busted equipment. It was punk in sound, but more importantly, in practice.

dada phone
dada phone is a no boundaries experimental sound artist coming out of medellin, currently living in rotterdam, who plays in a wide range of line-ups like ambient drawing, live cumbia and dj with cinema colombiano, and experimental nights with extratonal. 

in the “nuclear reactor karaoke” live performance, he is transmitting his deep love for many genres of caribbean tropical music like cumbia, merengue and champeta with an improvised loop experiment using acoustic percussions, effects washed synthetizers, and a robotic sounding vocal. an odd blend of old traditional with a wild and experimental approach, this is for the curious minds.
