Fundraiser for Nepal floods
Tickets: € 0
At Café Gilde, we are organizing a fundraising event that will bring together stories commemorating those who have been lost, poetry of resistance, music, and pop-up art. The funds raised will be directed either to immediate relief efforts through the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund or to other active organizations providing shelter and care for survivors. The café will be open as usual with dinner between 18:00 and 20:00.
In late August, a glacial lake outburst triggered a flash flood that caused the Bhotekoshi River to swell, sweeping through the homes of thousands of people in the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts of Nepal. This is not the first flash flood, or the first burden of climate change, that the Nepali people have had to endure. Every year, floods take hundreds of lives across the country. This year, however, the flooding has reached an unprecedented scale: more than 1,200 people have been confirmed dead, and over 4,000 remain missing.
When people’s lives are reduced to numbers, it becomes important to remember that behind every person who has died, gone missing, or been displaced are individuals with hopes, dreams, and families.
