Janine and her boyfriend decide to change their Berlin plattenbau apartment for a house in the countryside. But the picturesque landscape cannot hide a plain truth: the villagers receive them with clear-cut hostility. For their neighbour Peter, however, Janine’s presence means something entirely different. Overwhelmed by domestic struggles with an overworked mother and disabled brother, he sees his sexual desires awakened and begins to make clumsy, inappropriate advances. Campy, dark and musical, Janine moves to the Country is a story about sexual vigilance in small communities and the realities of breaking away from those around you.
