Selling a Colonial War reveals in a confronting manner how the Dutch government and top diplomats steered the narrative of their actions during the Indonesian struggle for independence through information services, newspapers, newsreels, and propaganda films, and ultimately lost control over this history. Internationally renowned historians from Indonesia, Australia, the United States, and the Netherlands, among others, share their perspectives to offer insight into this complex history. The film thus places this war and this history, for the first time, within the international political context of the time. Director In-Soo Radstake explores how the various frames continue to have an impact to this day.
