Jazz at A Lab #10 - Alkistis Misouli Sextet

Created in May 2024, the sextet researches the boundaries between the musical languages of jazz, classical, folk and free improvisation. Based and active primarily in Amsterdam, they have just released their debut album. 

Entitled "Vulnerability Portraits," it features pieces inspired and composed by duo improvisation sessions with each member of the band. 

Each piece in the set is based on two shared memories of vulnerability , captured in the improvisational interplay between different duos within the quintet. 

The process featured a series of "memory" parameters being translated into musical parameters that guided the improvisations. There is a piece dedicated to each member of the band, as well as two more compositions written independently.
