Small Miracles
Small Miracles is a series of interdisciplinary programs that tend to the existing and possible communities of Plein Theater. Taking place across different Saturdays throughout the year, the series brings together diverse artistic practices in extended, durational formats.
Each Saturday is dedicated to a word—or a word-mode—that serves as an invitation to explore the possibilities a theater offers for coming together. With a focus on desirable abundances and communal luxury, the programming of Small Miracles leans toward words aligned with these notions.
#3: Small Miracle 4: Birthdays
Curated with Elioa Steffens
If your birthday took place in June, July and August please get in contact with us. As summer draws to a close, we invite you to a gathering dedicated to Birthdays: a collective celebration for everyone whose birthday falls during the summer months, when friends, families, and communities are often dispersed by holidays. Bringing these celebrations together into one shared occasion, this day treats birthdays not as a private festivity but as a public one. As people return to the city and everyday rhythms begin again, the gathering marks the end of summer with a reunion in which to come together and listen to a concert by Baby´s Angels, decorate a cake in a cake-decorating competition hosted by Mini Maxwell, share favorite birthday food, dance to PussyRita´s dj-set, make gifts with Mercería Clara, performances, music, gifts, and wishes.
We start at 17.00 with the opening of the exhibition and will go until 23.00.
About the artists
Elioa Steffens (She/They, USA/NL) is an artist, researcher, facilitator, and organizer working in the fields of performance, writing, and social practice. At the heart of her practice is the pursuit of a queer belonging, an effort to entangle with others and the world beyond the normative structures we have inherited. Elioa is a co-organizer of Fertile Ruins (@fertile_ruins_amsterdam_) a queer bi-monthly art party and political fundraiser in Amsterdam. In 2021, she co-founded In Pursuit of Otherwise Possibilities, Queer Performance Pedagogy and Feedback (IPOP) an educational, artistic research platform exploring queer artistic feedback. With the collective Mad Ground, Elioa engages in a cross-religious, artistic research into the social and pedagogical possibilities of madness.

Baby’s Angels is a singer-songwriter trio composed of Aion Arribas, antje nestel, and Baby. Drawing from folk and country traditions, they make intimate, sentimental, and slightly embarrassing songs about the complicated mess of being alive together. Their music lingers in the everyday: the things that are said, the things that remain unsaid, small irritations, big feelings, and the strange reflections that emerge from sharing a life.
Aion and antje share the guitar, vocals, and songwriting, while Baby takes on the essential roles of muse, aesthetic director, and emotional consultant. Although she has never agreed to perform live, Baby remains an indispensable member of the band. She prefers to dwell in corners, under covers, and on sofas, far away from centres and the pressures of the stage. She is not particularly fond of antje’s guitar playing, but remains deeply committed to the band’s overall artistic vision.
Baby may not play an instrument, but she has been known to pose beautifully for the album artwork.

PussyRita is the dj name of Amsterdam-based Italian performance artist Rita Bifulco, also co-founder of the space Mime fabriek and the queer event Fertile Ruins. Her mixes are eclectic, juicy and moist. She creates an oneiric and chaotic atmosphere layering different electronic music with south Italian tunes and anything else with intensity in it. No rules, come dance!

Bin Koh (b. Jeju, South Korea) is an artist based in Amsterdam investigating how images become carriers of belief, memory, and systems. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, she traces how symbolic order organizes perception and construct reality across cultures and histories. Her work has been presented at Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Culture Station Seoul 284, Porto Design Biennale, Venice Art Projects, Framer Framed, and ArtScience Museum Singapore, among others.
Yun-Sook Kim (b. Jeju, South Korea) lives and works in Jeju. For over three decades, she has taken the landscape of the island as her subject, moving through one site at a time. Her work has been shown at the Grand Palais, Paris; the Taipei Fine Arts Museum; and in exhibitions across Japan and China. Collections include MMCA Art Bank, Jeju Museum of Art, Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, Park Soo-keun Museum and Gidang Art Museum.
Merceria Clara literally means the loss of innocence, address the idea of longing for youth and the concept of innocence itself. Merceria Clara began to work 6 years ago with their photographic archive of street visuals, Spanish culture and craft. Different images blends into clothes creating weareable pieces. Every item is one of kind, usually a re-worked second hand. The textiles have always a nostalgic feeling that takes you back to the past but edited in a way that also reminds the accurate present day.
