Palestinian film 'No Other Land' + after talk (benefit)
Open: 19:30 - 23:00
Tickets: € Donation
Cinema IJburg is a neighborhood cinema on tour. We screen films in shared spaces across IJburg that create room for gathering, conversation, and collective reflection. For our final screening of the season, we proudly present No Other Land (2024), directed by Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham, and Rachel Szor.
The film follows young Palestinian activist Basel Adra in Masafer Yatta, a centuries-old network of villages in the occupied West Bank facing systematic destruction by the Israeli military and settlers. As bulldozers flatten homes during the day, residents rebuild their lives at night. Together with journalist Yuval Abraham, Adra documents the ongoing displacement of his community -- a reality that has persisted for generations.
Since the film premiered, the violence depicted in it has only intensified. Co-director Hamdan Ballal was violently assaulted by Israeli settlers and later arrested by Israeli soldiers. Basel Adra’s village was attacked again, injuring members of his family and subjecting his home to military raids. Awdah Hathaleen, a Masafer Yatta activist who contributed to the film, was recently killed by an extremist settler.
No Other Land bears witness to what is at stake when people attempt to document their own reality under occupation and ongoing violence. It is a film about resistance, solidarity, friendship, and the necessity of continuing to testify.
