Lino For Prisoners: Linocut workshop and letter writing for Palestine Action prisoners

Join us for an afternoon of making art and international prisoner solidarity. During this 3-hour workshop you will make your own stamp using linocut and use it to decorate your letter to activists imprisoned in the UK for their actions in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Who are we writing to?
In the UK, more than 30 activists are currently imprisoned without trial or possibility of bail. They are accused of participating in actions targeting weapons destined for Israel, including at a factory of Elbit Systems, the largest manufacturer of Israeli drones and land-based military equipment which are “field tested” on Palestinians.

While awaiting their trials, some of which are scheduled to take place as far into the future as 2027, the prisoners are being held in different prisons across the country, with several experiencing censorship and insufficient medical care.

Receiving a letter from a comrade, even a stranger, can be the highlight of their day. It doesn’t only help remind them that people outside the prison walls are thinking of them, but also provides a welcome distraction and some updates about what is going on in the Palestine solidarity movement across the globe.

What we will do
During the first part of the workshop you will learn how to make your own lino stamp- from coming up with your own motive, to carving and printing with it. We will then write letters to the imprisoned activists, using our newly made stamps to decorate them.

Practicalities
No prior experience with linocut is required. We will provide all the necessary materials, as well as some inspiration for writing to prisoners.
The entrance fee charged will be used to cover the material costs. Any remaining proceeds and additional donations will be donated.
