Cinéma Dérive: Caligula
Open: 21:00 - 23:45 hrs
Tickets: € 0

Each Tuesday during the summer, Jeffrey curates and hosts a special free screening at Cinema of the Dam'd. Tonight he presents the gloriously trashy erotic historical drama Caligula (1979).

This legendary cinematic trainwreck charts the rise and fall of the notorious Roman Emperor Caligula (Malcolm McDowell). Watch as the deranged tyrant kills and humiliates his political enemies, sleeps with his sister Drusilla (Teresa Ann Savoy), appoints a horse to the Senate, and presides over decadent orgies in the imperial palace. Like Caligula himself, this lavish disaster is bombastic, garish and monstrous. The film's creators wanted to smash a hole in the movie industry and make pornography legit; instead they went over the edge into madness. Caligula features a remarkable cast of A-list actors (including Peter O'Toole, Sir John Gielgud, and Helen Mirren) performing on enormous sets alongside dozens of nude extras. It was scripted by esteemed author Gore Vidal, who later had his name removed from the credits. Producer and Penthouse magazine founder Bob Guccione fired original director Tinto Brass and took the helm, adding even more sex. Of course, we will screen Guccione's full uncensored cut. Watch the trailer.

Directed by Tinto Brass & Bob Guccione, 1979, Italy/USA, 156 minutes, High definition screening In English.
