May’s edition of Live at Our Place will be a feast for contemporary Jazz lovers. With influences from modern and classic music, Nina Rompa portray colourful, dreamy chamber music in an unusual formation; while Max Sergeant will present compositions where melody and improvisation are central.

Live at Our Place is a series of monthly intimate concerts by Treehouse NDSM’s musicians-in-residence. Our industrial Pavilion building will be turned into the musicians’ own living room, tuned each time to their own particular style and vibe. We invite you to our place, grab a drink, sit on the couch (or dance!), and enjoy the tunes that our talented community is working on during their stay at Treehouse NDSM.

ABOUT NINA ROMPA’S ACT

Nina Rompa (voice), Gijs Idema (guitar) and Mo van der Does (clarinet) create compositions that are rooted in Jazz, with influences from modern and classical music. The music on their album can be described as beautiful, melancholic, layered and warm, with moving lightness and clarity. Ancient and deep, while maintaining a contemporary feel.

ABOUT NINA ROMPA

Nina Rompa is a versatile vocalist from Amsterdam. After studying Jazz at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, she released her debut album in 2020 with Just Listen Records. Her music is described as colourful and dreamy, attempting to build a bridge between her classical background, and her Jazz and contemporary education. Besides writing her own music, she is part of many projects and ensembles, such as Cantorias, Kobra Ensemble and Kika Sprangers Large Ensemble.

ABOUT GIJS IDEMA

Gijs Idema is a guitarist and composer. He is a virtuosic, energetic player. His compositions contain rich harmonies, rhythmic energy and beautiful lyrical stories. He's always searching for playfulness between improvised and composed music. After graduating from the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, he studied at the Manhattan School of Music.

ABOUT MO VAN DER DOES

Mo van der Does is a saxophone and clarinet player and a composer. He plays with a refined and powerful sound on both instruments. He is known for his improvisations, compositions, and lyrical playing. Mo has won numerous awards, such as Keep an Eye on the Records, where the jury praised his layered compositions and artistic depth. Besides being the bandleader and composer of 'Motet', he is part of many different projects.

ABOUT MAX SERGEANT

Max Sergeant is a drummer, composer, and bandleader born and based in Amsterdam. With a heavy emphasis on improvisation and soloing, Max is presenting his own compositions. His warm melodies are embellished by dense harmony and paired with a variation of different grooves, satisfying the taste of a broad audience. All of this makes for an emotional yet inspiring performance. In the fall of 2022, Max released his first single “November (Live)”, his debut as a bandleader.
