This first feature documentary by Barbara Hammer, a pioneer of lesbian cinema, weaves striking images of four gay and lesbian couples with footage of an unearthed forbidden and invisible history. Questions of historic representation are examined through addressing the margins, between-the-line readings, and images outside of prescribed textual boundaries.

"Nitrate Kisses questions how history is recorded and encourages the viewer, gay or straight, to save scraps, letters, books, records, and snapshots in order to preserve our 'ordinary' lives as history." — Barbara Hammer

Queer Archives Exhibition
What kind of experiences do we as queer (young) adults, friends, and lovers archive? How does it manifest in our photo albums, journals, walls, or social media?
Amsterdam Alternative, in collaboration with a student film committee
CUT, is organizing a small exhibition after the screening of Barbara Hammer’s experimental queer documentary Nitrate Kisses, creating our very own queer archive. Calling all queer artists, creatives, and whoever is interested in showcasing their pictures, we are looking for photographs that resonate with the topic of personal queer memory archives.
