Amsterdam filmmaker Henri Plaat brings us a miraculous world replete with beauty and history but also memories of war and destruction.
In this analogue short film programme (16mm), Plaat employs the absurd and the playful, theatrically examining the quality of wonder through associative improvisation. He draws from a multitude of sources: desolate landscapes and dilapidated old cities, archaeology, ancient writings, pre-war films, film divas, and sound recordings. His gaze on fallen empires, and the melancholy of ancient greatness, expresses an urge for the essential and a desire to preserve it for posterity.
Dutch premiere in collaboration with Eye Filmmuseum.
